Head to the Family Art Studio to enjoy one-of-a-kind art projects themed around Skirball exhibitions, Jewish traditions, and the importance of caring for the world. Reinforcing the values of collaboration and community, these activities can be done anytime during your visit.

Current and Upcoming Projects:

November 7–December 1—Chachaanke’: A Traditional Tongva Game
Decorate game pieces, learn how to play, and learn a song in the Tongva language.

Join guest teaching artist Virginia Carmelo on November 16 to learn even more about Tongva culture and language. While you’re here, see Virginia’s portrait and Tongva language representation in the current exhibition On the National Language: The Poetry of America’s Endangered Tongues. This exhibition features poetic, visual, and linguistic selections of speakers and students of endangered languages who are living in the US today.

December 5–January 5—Clay Dreidels
Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, come make one out of clay! Get in the Hanukkah spirit by molding and decorating your own dreidel.

January 9–February 2—Spice Containers
Learn about the ceremony of Havdalah and prepare for a sweet week ahead by decorating and filling a container with spices sourced from the local Shemesh Farms.

February 6–March 2—Nature Patterned Totes
Celebrate the work of Diane von Furstenberg and the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shevat by designing your own tote bag using foraged items from the natural world.
